Local and maritime history, natural history, film, photography and archives….. Craft, sculpture, contemporary art inspired by historic objects, social history, fine art, fashion and textiles….. There’s plenty to see and enjoy in The Box’s permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions this May.

Murder, Mystery, Mayhem Exhibition
10.30am-3.30pm

An exhibition telling the stories of the some of the residents of the cemetery who met grisly ends.

Stories included the death of a sea captain at the hands of his crew, the murder of a young girl by her jealous boyfriend, the execution of a soldier by the IRA, policemen who died in the course of carrying out their duty, a whole family who perished in a horrific fire and the poisoning of a young woman through the ingestion of strychnine.

Join us at Crownhill Fort, the best preserved of Plymouth’s Victorian
Defences. Explore museum displays set within 16 acres of grounds
and partake in a series of guided walks, talks from guest speakers
and displays of historic artillery. Tickets can be booked in advance through our online shop, see our website for a ticket link. Subject to availability, remaining tickets can also be purchased on the day of the event. Payment on the day by cash only

Experience a fashion show with a twist! ‘Identity Parade’ is a showcase for some of Plymouth and the South West’s most exciting designers, creatives and brands. Come and see their creations on the catwalk as they respond to a range of themes and mix it up with  DJs, dancers and divas.

From red carpet couture to amazing accessories, this is a fashion show all about identity: individual identity, community identity and Plymouth’s identity in the world of fashion.

It’s been inspired by ‘Dress Code – Fashion Stories from The Box’ (until 4 September) – the city’s first exhibition dedicated to fashion and textiles. ‘Dress Code’ spans the 1700s to the present day and includes everything from lace to latex.
