Today, we’ll be looking at Beryl Cook, Robert Lenkiewicz, Jack Pickup and Keith Harrison – artists from the city’s more recent past. You can hear Lenkiewicz and Cook in this clip from the city’s media archive.
Tomorrow, we’ll be travelling back in time to the 18th and 19th centuries for more insights about Plymouth’s links with art. Until then, why not look at a few links to enjoy Plymouth’s landscapes through the eyes of its artists?
The city’s oil painting and sculpture collections have been been documented in recent years as part of a national project led by the Public Catalogue Foundation. You can view the collections on the ArtUK website.
Before the invention of the camera, people used watercolours to document the world. The Watercolour World website is building an online portal featuring every watercolour from any private or public collection. It currently contains a number of beautiful Plymouth-based works.
